How HD Photo Converter works

Most "HD converter" tools upload your photo to a server, queue it behind other people's jobs, and hand you back a result you have to trust was actually deleted afterward. This tool skips that entirely. The AI model that does the upscaling, and the code that reads and re-encodes your image file, both run as JavaScript and WebAssembly inside the page you're looking at right now, using your device's own processor. There is no upload step, because there is nothing to upload to.

Choosing between 2x and 4x

"Upscale by 2x" doubles both the width and height of your photo; "4x" quadruples both. A 2x pass is faster, uses less memory, and is usually enough to make a soft or slightly small photo look crisp again. A 4x pass goes further and is useful when you need a genuinely large image, for example to print a small photo at a bigger size or to use it as a desktop wallpaper. But it takes longer to process and asks more of your device's processor and memory, especially on an older phone.

Why your photo never leaves your device

Because the entire pipeline (reading the file, running the AI upscaling model, re-encoding the result) happens inside your browser using the Canvas API, WebAssembly, and TensorFlow.js, there's no network request carrying your image data anywhere. That's not a policy promise about what we choose to do with an upload; it's a structural fact about how the tool is built, because there's no upload path to begin with. What this tool won't do

To be direct about the limits: upscaling adds detail using a trained AI model's best guess at what sharper pixels should look like. It does not recover information the original photo genuinely never captured, and it is not the same technology as motion-blur or focus-blur removal ("deblurring"). A photo with heavy motion blur or camera shake will come out larger and often somewhat cleaner, but it won't be perfectly sharp, because the blur itself isn't specifically corrected. For a photo that's simply small or a little soft, results are typically excellent. For a photo that's severely out of focus, treat this as an improvement, not a fix. It's also not a photo restoration tool: it doesn't repair scratches, tears, or faded colour on an old scanned print; it only increases resolution and sharpness.

Yes, on any modern mobile browser. Very large photos at 4x can take longer and use more memory on an older phone than on a desktop computer. If a 4x upscale feels slow, try 2x instead.

Is this actually AI, or just a simple resize?
It's a genuine AI super-resolution model (an ESRGAN-family neural network, run through TensorFlow.js), not a plain resize filter. A plain resize (like a browser's built-in image scaling) stretches existing pixels and typically looks soft; an AI upscaler is trained to predict plausible fine detail, which is why the result looks noticeably sharper rather than just bigger.
What's the difference between this and a general photo editor?
HD Photo Converter does one thing (increase resolution and sharpness) rather than being a full editing suite with crop, filters, layers, and text tools. If you only need a photo converted to HD, that focus means less clicking around to find the one feature you actually want.
Can I convert a JPG to a higher quality JPG?
